older woman hikingIf you want to achieve physical perfection in the United States, you have got to be young — at least, according to the media. Beside the articles that talk about how you should accept the fact you are aging, or how to continue living a fulfilled life even after menopause is probably an ad that says the exact opposite. Quick quiz — name a model over the age of 50, or even 30 — that is used in a major ad campaign. Despite what all the advertisers want us to believe, there is no makeup or cream that is going to make us look like a 20-year-old model when we are in our 40s or 50s; real life doesn’t have an airbrush. While there are some advertisers who have recently started using women who look more like the rest of us than the standard model, such as Dove, it is not very likely that you are going to see any beauty product being advertised by a women who is over 50 years of age. While the older demographic may not currently be as strong as the younger one, the average age in the US is getting higher and soon advertisers are going to find that they have to shift their focus.
