Since the days of the cave man, women have been doing whatever they can to beautify themselves for the men they are interested in and love. Eventually, make up came into play and women can’t seem to live without it. From little girls putting on Mommy’s lipstick to Grandmother’s putting on a dab of lipstick to blush their cheeks, women love make up.

Make up makes us feel pretty and desirable. We can create a mood or persona using different make up techniques. We hide scars, age marks and freckles with make up. We enhance our best features and conceal what we don’t want others to see. Whether it’s the natural look with light earthy tones or the gothic look with heavy black and gray shades, make up is something no woman should go without.

As women, we may have started out trying to look good to impress men but beauty and make up have evolved far from those inclinations. Today, women want to be recognized and admired for their features by other women as well as by men. Nothing makes a woman’s day like a complete stranger on the train telling her how beautiful she looks. A compliment on your lip gloss can turn your day around.

Make up lets us create looks to either match or completely conceal how we feel. A woman can look as innocent or naughty as she likes, simply by adding a little make up. There’s no end to the tips and tricks that can be used to create shapes and styles that change the way we look, with make up.

Make up seems to have been most notably worn by men in Egyptian times. This is not the only account of make up use in men that is recorded, however. Greeks were known to wear make up during festivals and possibly more frequently. French royalty was infamous for their flair for the flamboyant and routinely wore make up. Make up obviously hasn’t always been all about the ladies.

There are so many articles of make up and it seems that routinely, a new make up manufacturer comes out with the next must have item. Concealer, foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow, mascara, lip stick and eye liner are the norm for most women when getting ready for the office or a night out on the town. While not every woman wears all of this at once or all the time, these are all must have items in any woman’s make up repertoire.

Today’s make up is made from far more earth friendly and skin friendly ingredients than when it began. Over the years, many different chemicals have been pulled from make up products because they were found to be unsafe or harmful to skin. Laboratory testing concluded that these chemicals were hazardous and the industry became more strictly regulated.

The best products on the market today include natural ingredients made from plant extracts and minerals. Knowing that today’s ladies want their skin to be fresh and young forever, most make up today also contains SPF to protect from the suns dangerous rays. Whether you’re a glamour girl or a tom boy, make up gives you that little extra something to make you feel prettier.
