As a pool owner, one must be up to date with the current information regarding their pools bacteria levels in order to ensure a safe and healthy swim. Even when an owner is adequately informed of this information, their pools can still be infected with germs  and they will need to buy swimming pool chemicals in order to eradicate them. The most popular bacteria is almost certainly algae, which come in various different types.

The first and most likely most common form of algae found is green algae, which is obviously a green color that typically floats around in the middle of the water, but can also cling to sides of the pool.

The second most common form is black algae, which is oddly enough a blue-green hue and is generally found inside the cracks of the pool basin, most frequently made of plaster.

And thirdly, the least common and very frequently misdiagnosed form is mustard algae. This type is commonly thought to be algae but is frequently only dirt sitting at the bottom of the pool. Now that you know the types of algaes, you can purchase the proper swimming pool chemicals to kill them.

Algae is a naturally occuring substance that is used in nature to feed things such as catfish and tadpoles. Algae cleaners used in nature include the catfish and other such fish that help the water to remain a good color and free of this green substance. At times total removal of all water might be needed and then the pool flushed and washed with a bleach soluation. Chlorine is the most common of the swimming pool chemicals. There are others as well that are mixed with the chlorine to help rid the water of unwanted substances, germs, bacteria, and algae that is common to waters that are not free flowing, such as streams and naturally spring fed ponds and lakes.
