Did you know that you can keep bees in an urban setting?   Bees are very industrious little creatures and will travel up to 4 miles to find nectar to make their honey with.  Before you bring a beehive into the city though be sure to check with your local regulations as they vary greatly.

Where to put your beehive.

Once you find a honey bees hive for sale to buy, you may wonder where to put it.  In a high-population urban setting there are basically three options.

If you are lucky enough to have a yard you can locate a bee hive in your backyard.  A rooftop also works well, but if all else fails you can actually keep bees inside your apartment in what is called an observation bee hive.  This type of hive looks like a giant ant farm, and you can’t collect honey from it, but it allows you to watch the bees at work in their hive, which is always interesting.

However you decide to pursue your urban beekeeping adventure, have fun and happy beekeeping.
